ARTIST STATEMENT

The past can both inspire and inform the present — a sort of emotional jetlag that spreads a transparent film of images upon our minds and thoughts to produce a fresh experience without knowledge of its exact origin.

The arcane past meets the sensual present in the works of Andrei Petrov, where elements from multiple time periods combine to create an experience of deja vu. Mysteriously intangible at first, the resolution solidifies into something familiar without symbols or defined imagery.

Petrov pays homage to ancient writing and painting styles at the crossroads of abstraction and reality. A single glimpse into his ambiguous yet carefully balanced worlds yields a myriad of translations. Eluding exact classification, these works behold a timelessness that transcends beyond their borders.
